Enjoying Sakura in Xi’an

Time goes by, spring has arrived. April is definitely the time for blooming flowers.
Sakura, or Cherry Blossoms, although iconic to Japan’s culture, is said to be originated from the Himalayas, according to an authoritative book about Sakura named Ying Da Jian.

Check out below several famous places in Xi’an to enjoy Sakura:

Qing-long Temple 青龙寺

Qing-long Temple is absolutely the must-visit place for Sakura every year in Xi’an. The variety of Sakura planted in Qing-long Temple with long history attracts lots of tourists.

Qing-long Temple is also the sacred place of Vajrayana, one of the eight Buddhism sects. In 1996, Qing-long Temple was listed in the major historical and cultural sites protected with the national level. In 1986, when they were building monument at Qinglong Temple for Kukai, a reputed Japanese monk, the Buddhist Association from Japan sent Sakura trees to Qinglong Temple as a gift to show friendship and peace. That was the origin of Sakura trees in Qinglong Temple.

Xi’an Jiaotong University
西安交通大学

The Sakura in Xi’an Jiaotong University is as famous as Qing-long Temple. There are also many different kinds of Sakura, the flowers begin to bloom from the first week of April.

Sakura Square 樱花广场

Sakura Square is located in the university town, Chang’an area. The square is not so big but full of Sakura. When the spring comes, the road will be lined with the blooming Sakura.

Wild Goose Pagoda 大雁塔

The Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the tang chang ‘an Jin Chang lane. Around April of every year, there will become a great Sakura rain, on the eastern side of the road and pond, ground and sink piled full of Sakura with a kind of a deluded romantic atmosphere.
